Beijing has formally summoned the Japanese ambassador, Kenji Kanasugi, in a statement of protest regarding the recent remarks made by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The Chinese foreign ministry reported Sun Weidong, Vice-Foreign Minister, as initiating the summons on Thursday. Sun stated that Takaichi’s comments were “egregiously wrong and highly dangerous” and constituted a serious breach of diplomatic protocol.
