Ethiopia officially inaugurated the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the largest hydroelectric dam in Africa. This project, estimated to generate substantial energy for millions, represents a significant step for Ethiopia’s economic development. The dam’s output has steadily increased since 2022, aiming to meet growing energy demands. However, the construction has sparked a political and hydrological disagreement with Egypt, raising concerns about water sharing and regional stability. The project remains under negotiation.
