Ethiopia Unveils Largest Dam, Triggering Nile Disputes

Ethiopia officially inaugurated the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the largest hydroelectric dam in Africa. This project, estimated to generate substantial energy for millions, represents a significant step for Ethiopia’s economic development. The dam’s output has steadily increased since 2022, aiming to meet growing energy demands. However, the construction has sparked a political and hydrological disagreement with Egypt, raising concerns about water sharing and regional stability. The project remains under negotiation.
