A fourth locally reported case of chikungunya fever has been identified in Hong Kong. The case, linked to a 68-year-old resident of Shau Kei Wan, is being investigated as potentially stemming from a previously undetected source of infection. Professor Jasper Chan Fuk-woo, a microbiology expert at the University of Hong Kong, cautioned that heightened surveillance efforts are crucial. He indicated that further investigation may reveal additional cases beyond the initial reported one. The investigation is focusing on analyzing recent epidemiological data and identifying potential environmental factors that could contribute to the outbreak. Authorities are prioritizing containment measures to prevent further spread.
