Goa Tops Category B in DPIIT Startup Ecosystem Rankings

New Delhi: Goa has been named the best-performing state for building a startup ecosystem in Category B of the States’ Startup Ecosystem Ranking, instituted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The rankings assess states and Union Territories across defined categories based on population size and performance. Evaluation criteria include policy frameworks, institutional support, infrastructure, access to funding, market linkages, capacity building, and innovation-led outcomes.

The recognition was announced during National Startup Day celebrations at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Certificate of Appreciation was received on behalf of the Government of Goa by Dr. Milind Sakhardande, Joint Director of the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), and D. S. Prashant, Chief Executive Officer of the Startup & IT Promotion Cell (SITPC).

According to the announcement, the assessment considers progress across multiple reform areas and measurable outcomes for startups. Goa’s performance reflects initiatives undertaken by DITE&C through SITPC to support startups at various stages, including policy support, institutional mechanisms, and collaboration with industry and academic stakeholders.

The recognition was also noted in the Goa Legislative Assembly, where the state’s Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister, Rohan A. Khaunte, acknowledged the contributions of government departments, institutions, and the startup community.

The award places Goa among the states recognized for progress in developing startup ecosystems under DPIIT’s national framework.
