Hong Kong Businesses Surge in National Day Visitor Numbers

According to data released by Hong Kong’s Tourism Board, the number of mainland Chinese visitors to the city during the first five days of the National Day “golden week” exceeded last year’s figures by 5.1%. This significant increase is attributed to the increased presence of visitors eager to experience the fireworks and cultural events. Specifically, cosmetics retailers and cha chaan teng establishments have reported a notable rise in customer foot traffic. Maurice Kong Chi-hang, Chairman of the Institute of Dining Professionals, noted that the October 1 fireworks display acted as a catalyst, contributing to a 10 to 25% increase in business for restaurants. Overall, the tourism sector is experiencing a positive impact from this heightened influx of visitors.
