Hong Kong Medical Student Faces Probation for Privacy Violation

Chung Chun-yu, a 23-year-old medical student at Hong Kong’s oldest university, has been sentenced to one year’s probation following the discovery of his unauthorized filming of two of his hallmates as they showered in a dormitory bathroom. Initially, he pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism, stating the incident occurred in September of last year. He admitted to using a mobile phone to capture footage through a hole in a laundry basket. Principal Magistrate David Cheung Chi-wai addressed the student, noting the violation of dormitory privacy. The case underscores the importance of respecting personal space and adhering to university regulations. The probation is a disciplinary measure, and the student is expected to undergo counseling and educational programs.
