Italy Imposes Tax on Low-Value Package Deliveries

Italy’s government is implementing a tax on low-value parcel deliveries originating from non-European countries, specifically targeting online retailers like Shein and Temu. The initiative, announced by senior officials, aims to bolster the Italian fashion industry’s competitiveness. The levy will apply to shipments below €150 (approximately $175) in value. Industry Minister Adolfo Urso stated that the tax will be in effect by the end of this year. The government intends to use this measure to mitigate the impact of lower-cost imports from these platforms, which pose a potential threat to Italy’s established businesses.
