Malaysia has experienced significant economic benefits from its durian exports to mainland China over the past seven years, generating over $1.4 billion in revenue. The government is currently exploring expansion opportunities in Taiwan and Peru to sustain this lucrative trade. The agriculture and food security ministry reports that durian exports have reached 115,359 tonnes in 2023, primarily utilizing phytosanitary certificates for export. The ministry anticipates continued growth through strategic market diversification, aiming to solidify Malaysia’s position as a major durian exporter within the Asia-Pacific region.
