Sharaa Calls for Sanctions Relief at UN General Assembly

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited New York this week to participate in the first United Nations General Assembly of a Syrian leader since 1965. During his visit, he addressed delegates and reiterated his request for the U.S. to formally eliminate the 2019 Caesar Act sanctions. Sharaa emphasized the importance of easing restrictions on Syria’s economic activities and humanitarian aid, arguing it would benefit the country’s stability and development. He stated the sanctions were hindering progress in addressing critical humanitarian needs.
