Singapore Teachers Face Significant Workload Pressure

A recent international study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has revealed that Singaporean teachers are experiencing considerable stress levels. The study, based on data from the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), found that teachers across the nation dedicate significantly more hours to their work compared to their counterparts in other developed nations. The survey examined 55 education systems, including 3,500 lower secondary teachers representing all 145 public secondary schools in Singapore. The findings highlight a substantial workload burden, impacting teacher well-being and potentially affecting student outcomes. The study’s data provides insights into the challenges faced by educators in Singaporean schools.
