Supreme Court Denies Bail for NSCN-IM Leader

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated legal proceedings against Alemla Jamir, identified as the leader of the NSCN-IM (New Naga Sovereignty Movement), following her apprehension at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi airport on December 17, 2019. During the interception, Jamir was carrying approximately ₹72 in cash, indicating potential financial support for the insurgency. The NIA alleges that Jamir was involved in planning and facilitating activities of the NSCN-IM, a separatist group advocating for autonomy for Nagas. The agency is pursuing charges related to terrorism and attempting to disrupt the group’s operations. The court has denied Jamir bail, pending further investigation.
