The United States Supreme Court rejected a new request from Turkey’s Halkbank to pursue criminal charges against it in the United States. Halkbank filed an appeal after a lower court ruled in favor of the US government. The request was made to halt a case concerning alleged fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to circumvent American sanctions imposed due to Iran’s economic activities. The court ultimately denied the appeal, upholding the previous ruling that allowed the criminal case to continue. Shares of Halkbank in Istanbul fell 10 per cent following the announcement. The decision was made by the justices, who did not provide further context.
