UK Modifies English Language Test for Hong Kong Settlers

The UK government has announced a modification to its requirements for individuals seeking to settle in Hong Kong through the British National (Overseas) pathway. The government has stated they will now engage in consultation regarding the increased English language proficiency expected of applicants. Minister Mike Tapp emphasized that the UK will revisit the existing pathway, potentially extending it to individuals born after 1997, who may not possess a BN(O) passport. This adjustment follows previous discussions about strengthening language assessment and ensuring compliance with UK standards. The government’s decision reflects a review of the pathway’s effectiveness and accessibility.
