Rajasthan Rainfall Death Toll Exceeds 193

As many as 193 persons have died in Rajasthan due to heavy rainfall while 36 have been injured this year, Rajasthan Minister Kirodi Lal Meena told the Assembly Thursday. Speaking in the Assembly during the Adjournment Motion, Meena – Rajasthan’s Cabinet minister for Disaster Management and Relief and Civil Defence – said that apart from 193 deaths, 36 people have been injured. Additionally, 347 small cattle and 279 big cattle have perished. He said that 1,974 pucca homes have also collapsed due to rains while 752 kutcha homes have suffered the same fate. He also said that 2,855 families have lost their clothes while 3,522 families have lost their utensils. Additionally, 190 huts and 517 animal enclosures have been affected, Meena said. He said that a survey is conducted as per SDRF norms and a compensation is paid as per the same rules. So far, Rs 104 lakh have been given to the kin of 26 deceased. As for perished cattle, eight affected people have been given Rs 2.53 lakh while 515 people whose homes have collapsed have been given Rs 184.74 lakh. For utensils, 193 people have been given Rs 10 lakh. He said that all those who sustained losses due to rainfall will be compensated and that the process is still on. “During your tenure, compensation was given if someone suffered 50 percent losses while after (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji came, it was given at 33 percent loss,” Meena said. For compensation over lost crops, he said that a Girdavari report is being prepared and work for the same had begun on August 1 itself. “It is easy to say that people are out in the open during rains and there is no one to take care of them. But wherever there has been heavy rainfall, we have set up shelter homes through Nagar Palika, Nagar Parishad, and Gram Panchayat. We have also sent food packets,” he said. The minister informed that in Rajasthan, compared to other years, there has been 62.5 percent more rainfall this year.
