Eveready Industries’ TEFCO Facility Earns BIS Certification for Flashlight Manufacturing

Flashlight Manufacturer Eveready Industries Receives BIS Certification For TEFCO Facility

Mumbai: — Eveready Industries India Ltd., a leading name in the country’s battery and flashlight market, has announced that its Lucknow-based manufacturing unit, The Eveready Flashlight Company (TEFCO), has received the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. This recognition affirms the facility’s adherence to stringent quality and safety standards in flashlight production.

The TEFCO plant, one of India’s oldest and largest torch manufacturing units, has been acknowledged for its manufacturing excellence and commitment to quality. The certification comes at a time when the Indian flashlight industry is grappling with challenges posed by unorganised players selling uncertified products through informal channels. These products often lack legal metrology compliance and make unverified technical claims, leading to consumer misinformation.

With BIS certification now in place, Eveready’s flashlights and torches will carry the official ISI mark and Central Mark License (CML) number, ensuring consumers receive rigorously tested and reliable products. The certification is expected to enhance consumer trust, promote fair competition, and safeguard domestic manufacturers by enforcing standardization and performance benchmarks.

Anirban Banerjee, CEO of Eveready Industries, stated, “As India’s No.1 flashlight brand, we are proud to receive the BIS certification for our Lucknow facility. This milestone reinforces our commitment to quality, safety, and transparency, and strengthens consumer trust in our products.”

The TEFCO facility already houses a NABL-accredited laboratory, where products undergo thorough testing as part of the certification process. Arun Kumar Sahay, Senior VP & Head of Operations, added, “This achievement reflects our dedication to producing high-quality, safe flashlights that meet the highest industry standards.”

Established in 1956 and inaugurated in 1958 by then-Governor of Uttar Pradesh V.V. Giri, the TEFCO plant manufactures a wide range of lighting products including LED flashlights and rechargeable lanterns. The BIS certification aligns Eveready with recent government efforts to standardize products across various sectors, including footwear, electronics, and textiles.
