Apple Names Amar Subramanya New AI Vice President

Apple has appointed Amar Subramanya as its vice president of artificial intelligence, succeeding John Giannandrea. The company announced the leadership transition on Monday.

Subramanya joins Apple from Microsoft, where he most recently served as corporate vice president of AI. He previously spent 16 years at Google in several positions, including head of engineering for the Gemini assistant. He will oversee Apple Foundation Models and machine learning research and will report to Craig Federighi, who leads the company’s software division. Apple has adopted AI features more slowly than some competitors, including Samsung Electronics, which has moved more quickly to integrate the technology into its devices.

John Giannandrea will continue to advise Apple until his expected retirement in the spring of next year.
