Mumbai: Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Naik inaugurated a 45 kW on-grid solar power system at a water pumping station in North Goa district under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).
The installation is designed to generate around 60,000 units of electricity annually, enabling complete solarization of the pumping load. According to the release, the project demonstrates the potential of renewable energy to sustainably power public water distribution systems.
IREDA Chairman and Managing Director Shri Pradip Kumar Das said the initiative reflects the agency’s broader commitment to advancing clean energy adoption within community infrastructure. “Solarization of public services such as water pumping stations can become a replicable model for sustainable energy transition nationwide,” he stated.
Officials from IREDA’s CSR team, the Goa Drinking Water Department, and local authorities attended the inauguration.
