Mumbai – Mumbai’s radio industry conducted a city-wide, multi-station simulcast focused on Dharavi’s redevelopment, marking the first time competing FM stations in the city aired a single, unified broadcast.
The two-hour programme, titled Radio Community Ek Saath, aired on Dec. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and was spearheaded by Adani Group. Five FM stations—Radio Mirchi, BIG FM, Red FM, Radio Nasha and Radio City—broadcast the same content simultaneously across their frequencies.
The simulcast brought together radio presenters from each station, including RJ Jeeturaaj, RJ Vrajesh Hirjee, RJ Malishka, RJ Rohini and RJ Salil, who jointly hosted the programme from a single studio. According to the release, the broadcast aimed to raise awareness about the human-focused aspects of Dharavi’s redevelopment and featured discussions centered on sanitation, health and education.
In the weeks leading up to the simulcast, more than 25 radio presenters participated in on-ground interactions with Dharavi residents. These engagements were reflected through on-air segments, advertisements, music-based content and digital storytelling across radio and social media platforms.
As part of the initiative, participating stations also ran hourly time checks at the 17th minute, referencing Dharavi’s postal code, 400017, to draw attention to the area during regular programming.
The simulcast has since been made available on YouTube, extending access beyond live radio audiences.
Ajay Kakar, Head of Corporate Branding at the Adani Group, said the collaboration was intended to underscore the redevelopment’s focus on residents and community participation.
