Amaravati to Remain Sole Capital, Says Andhra CM

Mumbai – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said Amaravati will remain the state’s only capital, following the passage of the Capital Bill in Parliament granting it legal status. Speaking at a public meeting in Vinjamuru, Nellore district, he said the decision removes uncertainty over the capital’s future.

Naidu described Amaravati as a symbol of the state’s “self-respect” and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders of various parties for supporting the bill. He also criticized earlier proposals for multiple capitals, saying they created confusion.

The Chief Minister highlighted welfare initiatives under the Pedala Sevalo programme, noting that the state spends ₹2,750 crore monthly on pensions. He said schemes such as Thalliki Vandanam and Deepam 2.0 are being implemented, including the distribution of free LPG cylinders and plans for piped gas connections. An annual subsidy of ₹2,400 will be provided to beneficiaries.

On infrastructure, Naidu said the Centre has released ₹1,300 crore for the Polavaram Project, which the state aims to complete before the Godavari Pushkaram. He also announced ₹34 crore for a canal project to supply water to Vinjamuru’s Patacheruvu.

Citing industrial development in Nellore district, he said projects including Ramayapatnam Port and solar manufacturing units are expected to generate around 80,000 jobs.

Naidu also announced free electricity for weavers, a ₹5 crore thrift fund, and the establishment of five handloom clusters. He said 5.5 lakh houses have been completed in 21 months, with another 4.5 lakh expected by December.
