Fernandez Hosts Minimally Invasive Gynaecology Masterclass in Hyderabad

Hyderabad : The Fernandez Hospital Educational and Research Foundation (FHERF) conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Basics and Beyond: A Masterclass in Minimally Invasive Gynaec and Pelvic Surgery” on 1 March 2026 at The Park Hotel in Hyderabad.

More than 140 consultants, residents, fellows and postgraduate students from Telangana and neighbouring states attended the full-day event, according to the organisers.

The programme aimed to bridge the gap between theory and surgical practice through live demonstrations, case discussions and sessions on surgical planning, complication management and intraoperative decision-making.

The faculty included Dr V P Paily, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Rajagiri Hospital, and Dr Hafeez Rahman, Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon and Head of Department at Sunrise Hospital. Dr Paily, who has more than five decades of experience in urogynecology, endoscopy, infertility and high-risk obstetrics, spoke on pelvic reconstructive surgery and clinical protocols. Dr Rahman demonstrated laparoscopic techniques based on his experience of more than 120,000 surgeries, including over 35,000 total laparoscopic hysterectomies.

Sessions covered procedures such as total laparoscopic hysterectomy, endometriosis surgery, myomectomy, uterovaginal prolapse repair, perineal tear repair, non-descent vaginal hysterectomy, transobturator tape procedures for stress urinary incontinence, and vault prolapse management.

Dr Krupa Patalay, Senior Consultant and Head of Gynaecology at Fernandez Hospital, said the programme reflected the institution’s focus on continuous surgical learning. Samir Vieira, CEO of Fernandez Foundation, said such initiatives contribute to strengthening clinical standards through structured academic training.

Organisers said the CME is part of ongoing efforts to promote evidence-based training and collaboration within the medical community.
