India, Finland Discuss Cooperation in Skills and Workforce Mobility

India and Finland held discussions on expanding cooperation in skill development, vocational education and workforce mobility during a bilateral meeting between government officials on Thursday.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary, India’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, met with Matias Marttinen, Finland’s Minister of Employment, to explore opportunities for collaboration between the two countries’ training systems, institutions and industries.

The ministers discussed ways to strengthen vocational education and create pathways for skilled workforce mobility. According to the discussion, both sides identified opportunities to build closer ties between training institutions and industry to support the development of job-ready skills and facilitate international employment opportunities.

Chaudhary said India’s large and young workforce, combined with its expanding skilling ecosystem, positions the country to contribute talent to global industries. He noted that collaboration with Finland could help build connections between training systems and open pathways for skilled youth to access global opportunities.

Marttinen said Finland values its growing partnership with India in vocational education and workforce development. He noted that skilled Indian professionals contribute to multiple sectors in Finland and said cooperation could help address workforce needs while promoting innovation and economic growth.

The discussions highlighted potential collaboration in sectors including healthcare, construction, green technologies and advanced manufacturing. Both sides also explored strengthening partnerships between vocational education and training institutions, promoting knowledge exchange and supporting industry-led skill development initiatives.

Officials also discussed capacity building for trainers, integrating language training to support international mobility and developing pathways that combine vocational training with academic qualifications. The meeting concluded with both countries expressing interest in continued engagement to expand cooperation and facilitate recognition of vocational qualifications.
