Ishwar Chand Agarwal, founder and executive chairman of Genus Group of Companies and Genus Power Infrastructure, has been honoured with the Hurun Industry Achievement Award 2025–26 at the India’s Most Respected Entrepreneurs Awards.
The recognition acknowledges entrepreneurs who have built large-scale enterprises and influenced industry development through innovation and long-term value creation. According to the announcement, the award highlights Agarwal’s role in developing indigenous technology capabilities and contributing to India’s power distribution and electronics manufacturing sectors.
Agarwal founded Genus with the aim of advancing domestic engineering and electronics manufacturing for critical infrastructure. Over the past five decades, the company has grown from a single-product enterprise into a diversified energy solutions group. The group operates across sectors including power infrastructure, electronics, and other industries, and currently provides more than 25,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Genus Power Infrastructure was established in Jaipur in 1996 and has since focused on energy measurement and smart metering technologies. The company recently reported deploying more than one crore smart meters under the Government of India’s National Smart Grid Mission, according to the announcement.
Commenting on the recognition, Agarwal said the honour reflects the efforts of the organisation and its employees. He said the company remains focused on innovation in electronics and power infrastructure solutions while contributing to employment generation and energy sector development.
The announcement also noted Agarwal’s early advocacy of local design and manufacturing in electronics and metering technologies, which the company says contributed to the development of smart metering and digital grid infrastructure in India’s power sector.
