Nikhil Kamath Highlights Voice AI and Tech Sovereignty in Podcast Discussion

Investor and entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath discussed the future of voice artificial intelligence, emerging hardware and technological sovereignty during a conversation with ElevenLabs CEO and co-founder Mati Staniszewski on the podcast People by WTF.

During the discussion, Kamath said voice technology could become a key interface shaping how people interact with digital platforms, media and information. He suggested that if voice systems can provide real-time translation and natural interaction without delay, they could broaden access to technology beyond English-speaking users.

“Nobody seems to have cracked voice yet. But if they do, if it translates without latency, if it becomes the natural interface, that changes who gets to participate,” Kamath said.

Staniszewski outlined elements needed to advance voice technology, including improvements in foundational models that sound more human, integration with knowledge systems and the development of suitable hardware devices. He cited examples of companies using ElevenLabs’ voice AI, including Meesho, MasterClass and TVS Motor, as well as the dubbing of an interview between Lex Fridman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kamath also spoke about the role of AI-enabled hardware, noting that he is an investor in London-based consumer technology company Nothing. He suggested such devices could help expand the use of voice-based AI systems.

The conversation also addressed the role of global technology platforms and digital infrastructure in a changing geopolitical environment. Kamath said entrepreneurs should consider diversifying the platforms they rely on and explore open-source technologies to reduce dependence on dominant ecosystems.

Kamath also referenced a social platform he has been developing for India that aims to encourage debate and discussion among verified users. By the end of the conversation, Staniszewski suggested the possibility of collaboration between ElevenLabs’ voice technology and Kamath’s ecosystem, though no formal announcement was made.
