Prime Video said its Hindi original film Subedaar became the platform’s most-watched Indian original movie during its opening weekend after premiering worldwide on March 5.
According to the company, the action drama trended in Prime Video’s Top 10 list across 31 countries during its first weekend on the service. In India, the film recorded viewership across 91% of the country’s pin codes during its launch window, reflecting widespread audience engagement.
“Subedaar’s success is a reflection of the growing scale and global resonance of Indian storytelling,” said Nikhil Madhok, director and head of Originals at Prime Video India. He added that the film’s narrative about a soldier facing challenges beyond the battlefield had resonated with viewers.
Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film is produced by Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor and Triveni. It is written by Triveni and Prajwal Chandrashekar, with dialogues by Triveni, Saurabh Dwivedi and Chandrashekar.
The film stars Anil Kapoor as Subedaar Arjun Maurya alongside Radhikka Madan. The cast also includes Mona Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik and Khushboo Sundar in supporting roles.
Subedaar follows Arjun Maurya, a retired soldier adjusting to civilian life while confronting crime and corruption, with the story centering on his relationship with his daughter.
The film is available on Prime Video in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in India and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
